The house search begins with educating yourself about the current real estate market conditions. Is it a Seller's market where housing inventory is low and buyer demand is high or is it a Buyer's market where inventory is high and buyer demand is low.
How can you tell? Go to open houses and ask questions. Ask friends or co-workers who may have recently bought a house what their experience was. Read articles that talk about the local real estate market. And your best source is to use the services of a good real estate professional who is knowledgeable in the area in which you wish to buy.
Your realtor will be able to determine your needs and preferences by conversations with you and then actually showing you homes. This process will allow you to locate homes available in the style, price, and location that you desire.
A point of note: there is no specific time frame involved when looking for a home. It can take several days of home showings to find that special property or it might be found on the first day. It depends on how prepared and motivated the buyer is and how knowledgeable the realtor is.
