Mountain View is one of the most diverse and dynamic communities in California. There are many compelling reasons that make it a livable community; from outdoor recreation to great shopping as well as the large number of companies that contribute to the economic health of the community. The San Francisco Chronicle has ranked Mountain View among the top Most Livable Cities in the Bay Area. In comparison to nearby cities, its' housing is more reasonably priced. Many young families find this very appealing. Also very appealing is the high standard of education that can be found. Mountain View schools rank among the best in California. The elementary schools are catered to by two school districts, Mountain View and Whisman. The Mountain View/Los Altos Union High School District servers students for grades 9-12. There are also many fine private schools in service to the community:Mountain View Academy, St. Francis High School, St. Joseph school, and Southbay Christian School. Higher education goals can be attained at nearby colleges and universities: Stanford University, Santa Clara University, Golden Gate University, and an extension to the University of California, Santa Cruz. Also serving the area is the community college of Foothill College. It has been acclaimed by the San Francisco chronicle as the "most beautiful community college ever built."
