Voter Registration To vote in California, you must be a citizen of the United States, a resident of California, a resident of the precinct for at least 29 days before the election, 18 years of age and older by election day, and must be registered 29 days prior to the election. Voters who move within 29 days of an election may vote in their old precinct. Ex-felons who have completed parole may register to vote. Californians can register by mail. Postage paid registration forms are available at the Registrar of Voters office, city halls, public libraries, post offices, fire stations, Department of Motor Vehicles offices, city and county offices, and federal offices. Registration in California is permanent. Once registered to vote you will not be taken off the lists for not voting. Voters must re-register whenever they move to a new location, change their name, or wish to change their party affiliations.
